Risk Managers visit each campus once per semester to conduct safety inspections specific to property and liability exposures. Corrective recommendations are presented.

DOT Testing
We oversee the Random Drug & Alcohol Testing as required by the DOT. We maintain a database of each district’s eligible drivers and schedule random quarterly testing through a certified mobile toxicology service. Our office maintains records of every test and all reports necessary for your CHP inspections. We keep up-to-date DOT manuals so we can stay abreast of changes to regulations and notify districts promptly.

Playground Audits
Our risk managers are Certified Playground Safety Inspectors. As such they can guide members in developing a Playground Safety Program, including a bi-annual playground safety audit, regular upkeep inspections, and staff training.

Employee Training
In order to minimize risk and prevent accidents, district and school staff should receive the proper training. Our risk managers can conduct training on fire prevention, slips and falls, emergency preparedness, and environmental health.

Incident/Accident Investigation
The best way to manage an injury is to not have one! Our risk managers are actively involved with your employee training in areas such as safe lifting, machine guarding, ergonomics, Hazard Communication, and bloodborne pathogens. As part of our claim management and loss control program, CRMA wants accidents investigated. We will assist with and conduct accident investigations for our memebers.

Opacity Testing
The State of California requires annual diesel emissions testing. CRMA maintains an opacity meter for member use. Our office maintains a schedule for each districts’ annual testing and keeps copies of all busses tested. Our risk managers can assist with the actual testing.

Fleet Safety Program
Our risk managers will work with your transportation department in all aspects of fleet safety. Areas include bus inspections, driver selection and hiring, DOT drug testing, and bus rodeos.

Participation on Safety Committee
One of the best methods of loss prevention and safety promotion is a safety committee. Our risk managers are available to participate on any existing committees or help members set up a new one.

Review of Injury & Illness Prevention
Every California employer – including schools – must have a written IIPP. Your safety manual includes information on accident investigations, training, inspections and record keeping. Our risk managers will review your existing materials and keep them current to Cal-OSHA standards.

Accident Investigation
Once notified of an injury, our risk managers will determine the appropriate level of accident investigation. Simple first aid-type injuries may require only a phone call, while more serious injuries receive an in-depth analysis with corrective recommendations. All investigations are geared toward prevention of future injuries.
